Speaking of that Alberto Del Rio/Jack Swagger match, I saw a lot of people on Twitter saying that now that WWE used Instant Replay in that match, they have to use it in every match moving forward…
…completely overlooking the fact that they wrote it in such a way that Mike Chioda’s personal judgment and discretion is the reason Instant Replay was used, and that you have to give Zeb Colter something to bitch about whether he wins or loses because that’s his entire character, and that Mike Chioda said the match only continues if Del Rio can get to his feet which further establishes that this was a Chioda decision, not a WWE policy.
Maybe that’s easy to lose on people, and maybe I’m an insufferable nerd when it comes to this shit…but when those VERY SAME FANS are telling the WWE to expect more from their fans and not insult their intelligence while they sit there refusing to think even one step further about the very decision they’re complaining about, it can be a little frustrating to read, y’know?
Maybe it does fall on the WWE to make things simpler for the audience at large, or maybe they should be more subtle and do more complex shit like they pulled tonight, but you need to figure out where you stand with either approach instead of just shitting on all of it indiscrimnately.
Watching Extreme Rules now that I’m done with uni for the day. So far I’ve been actually pretty impressed by everything - there hasn’t been a match yet that I’ve thought ‘ugh, skip’ about. Enjoying the fact all three members of the Shield are wearing gold, and I’ve always liked the dynamics of tornado tag matches. Sucks that Kofi was basically just treading water a little with his title reign, but he and Ambrose had a good match.
Swagger against Del Rio was good - I liked Lilian announcing Ricardo in Spanish after Coulter had his little rant. I guess they’re trying to go somewhere with that instant reply finish, and since it was on the referee’s initiative or whatever it doesn’t feel like it will necessarily be popping up too much after today - or that they won’t be obligated to use it all the time just because it’s been used much. I’m not really sure what I’m trying to say here, but anyway. Zeb throwing the towel in was brilliant, no matter what else happened.
I feel like I was expecting a little more from the Mark Henry/Sheamus match, but I couldn’t tell you what else I was actually hoping for. I wasn’t overwhelmed by the Jericho/Fandango match, but it wasn’t unenjoyable, and that Codebreaker to finish was pretty impressive.
Kaitlyn and AJ got screen time on the PPV even without a match, in a brawl that actually looked like a brawl and not just a catfight, so that was fun. And AJ’s shirt is awesome - if only I had money, I’d be all about buying it!
Okay, now I’ve finished watching the PPV and I can finish my thoughts on the rest of the matches. Big Show vs Randy Orton was okay; feeling that home town support and the return of the punt was a pretty cool way to finish the match. Cena vs Ryback was better than I might have expected, and them going through the light display on the stage was pretty fricking insane. Not sure if legit or not, but I hope nobody was seriously injured.
I wasn’t really feeling HHH/Lesnar to start with, but watched it anyway and it turned out to be a pretty interesting match. Paul Heyman was brilliant as always, though I may never be intimidated by Brock Lesnar again. Now I understand why the guy doesn’t talk, because that voice is not very frightening. Not very excited that it looks like the feud will continue on, but eh. Maybe they’ll manage to make it interesting after this?
Overall I enjoyed Extreme Rules. It had some solid matches and it had a few impressive ones too, and enough of a wow factor for a night that is supposed to be all about the extreme. I’m interested now to see how things play out with the Shield as champions, and I really, really want that Kaitlyn vs AJ Divas title match too.

I once again apologize for all the ESC yesterday. So have some class A australian comedy to make up for it :D
That “if you’re willing to give your life to defend my rights, you can have sex with a pie and I’ll heat it up for you” line? It comes from this segment. Just in case anybody was wondering.
